Amid the folds of history lie figures who are not easily understood. Agostino Caccia-an intellectual, poet, and man of arms from Novara-is one of them. His elusive personality, difficult for us to grasp today, was highly regarded by his contemporaries, both famous and lesser-known. In correspondence with Luigi Alamanni, Annibal Caro, and Anton Francesco Doni, Caccia was described by the latter as a "universal man," given the breadth of his interests. Edited by Benedict Buono-already a scholar of Caccia and his Petrarchan and playful works-this volume presents his spiritual and moral writings, accompanied by a rich historical and philological commentary.
